Panic vs. Power

I must tell you something. This election cycle has changed me in ways I never thought I would change. For a very long time I treated my political thought like some people treat their religion. I kept it "under wraps." I tried not to get into heated discussions with people. I used my humor to change the subject. I often talked about sports instead or education but not politics, no way! What I didn't know was that the rest of the conservative/republican world was doing the same thing. That so many others were taking the same approach. That people like me were keeping their politics to themselves and their voting booth. Most, afraid of being called, neocons, bigots, war mongers, homophobes or worse! So we just kept quiet.
But something has happened in the last 100 days. Conservative/republicans are starting to become more forthright. I see people coming out of the conservative closet! I talk to more and more people on a daily basis that are happy to associate themselves with conservative/republicans. I am under the impression that there are a few things that are factoring into this renaissance.
I think first, is that conservative/republicans have finally shown the decency to peel away the disgusting underbelly of corruption that was a parasite on conservatives/republicans. I think second, taking a long hard look at themselves and remembering who they worked for on August 1 2008. This is the day that some house republicans refused to leave the floor of the house until Nancy Pelosi brought to the floor the American Energy Act. This was a show a bravery that inspired people. And now John McCain choosing a running mate that reminds us of ourselves. A person that is not a part of that "whole Washington thing." Someone new and different. Sarah Palin, the moose shooting, flute playing, runway walking, baby having Governor from Alaska! Conservatives/republicans are energized!
The catalyst is the media. It has been said for a number of years that there was and is a left-wing bias in the major media outlets. For as long as that was being said most conservatives/republicans were resigned to the fact (or so they thought) there was nothing they could do about it. But this election cycle is different. Enter Mr. Obama. The nation's first African American nominee from a major party. The rules were different, but were they? Or was it that the media was put in a position that had to "play their hand?"
The media was in the predicament of having back the African-American. It was easier to do that than to find a way around the phrase "racist media." Poor Mrs. Clinton was hung out to dry by the same media that months earlier was singing her praise. But there was no way the media could support her and not Mr. Obama. But again, in this they had to "play their hand." They had to show that they had hand a hand full of left wing playing cards. The obvious media bias that had been accepted by conservative/republicans was too apparent now to ignore. While Chris Matthews geting a tingle up his leg while listening to Mr. Obama is one thing, but feeling comfortable enough to tell the rest of us was not only creepy, it showed that there is at least an emotional bias. This for a number of conservatives/republicans was a bridge too far.
So now we have boldness by some house republicans, we have a fresh face in Sarah Palin and an "out of the closet" liberal biased media. The perfect storm for conservative/republicans to come back to life and it happens. The right is awake after many years of sleeping and putting its head in the sand. Then it happened! The attacks.
The attack that were borne from Panic. Panic came to the left because the sleeping giant of the right had been awakened. Many young people on the left have never seen an active and engaged right. Most of the young people that are involved in the current political fracas are too young to remember Ronald Reagan. They do not remember the so called "radical republicans." Their view of the right are old, out of touch, technology stupid, way too religious people that it is fine to talk bad about, and make fun of. They have not seen the strength that comes with carrying the torch of truth. So, now they panic!
When people panic their judgment is clouded and they say and do things that would not normally do. And this has come in the form of attacks on Sarah Palin. Whenever someone is trying to hurt you they of attack something or someone you care about. It was obvious the right loves themselves some Sarah Palin. The left has sent every form of personal attack they could think of. They have attacked her age. They have attacked her son. They have attacked her husband. They have attacked her daughter. They have attacked her record as Governor. You name it the left hates it. Complete panic. What they didn't count on was the power the right had all along. The power that comes from love. The power of patriotism.

Today I Will Make History
My friends
Today like everyday is an historic day for me. Today is a day that the promise of America remains real to me. Today is a day that the hope that is the American dream inspires me more than it did yesterday. Today I will make history.
The history that I will make may never be found in the pages of children’s schoolbooks. The history that I make today may not ever be seen on television. The history that I make today will live in the hearts and minds of those that these words touch. Today I will make history.
Today I will speak the truth. I will use the bravery of those that have come before me to speak the truth. I will use the sacrifices of those that gave their lives to speak the truth. I will stand on the shoulders of the greatest of our time to speak the truth. Today I will make history.
The truth of America is both painful and poignant. The truth of America we should celebrate and be challenged by. The truth of America is a story penned by millions of those that dreamed of a better day and now demand that I make history. Today I will make history.
I will point out the injustices that plague America. I will point out the pockets of moral decay that continue to hold some Americans in the bondage of poverty and lack. I will point out all those truths that are painful to hear because they challenge us. These truths challenge us to make history. Today I will make history.
After so much time many would hope that the demon of racism would not be truth in America. The truth is that racism exists in America. The truth is that racism is not bound to any particular group but spreads itself over our landscape like a filthy rag. Racism touches each corner of our country.Racism has integrated itself into the speech of every race, every creed and every religion of America today. Racism has integrated itself into every age group of America. Racism has integrated itself into every financial strata of America. That is a painful truth. Racism may indeed be a truth but it does not have to be the truth of our future.
The path of our future is illuminated by the light of truth. The truth that all men are created equal. The truth of all men have the basic rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These are those truths that I will speak today. Today I will make history!
Today I will speak for all Americans born and unborn. In recent history 50 million Americans have not been given those basic rights that I spoke of earlier. These Americans have paid with their lives the price of irresponsibility. Today I speak for those Americans. Today I will make history!
Today I will speak for those that understand that there is a price for freedom and that some must be willing to pay that price. I will speak for those that since the start of this republic that have been willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for this country. I will continue to speak for them and their families. Today I will make history.
Today I speak for those families that have been the basic fiber that makes up the fabric of this country. I will speak for those families that do the hard work of raising each of the next generations of Americans. I will speak for those families that continue to produce Americans that are those most philanthropic humans on this planet. Today I will make history.
Today I will not do anything that special. Today I will not be on the world stage. Today I will speak to millions. Today like you I will speak to my neighbor. Today like you I will speak to my friends. Today like you, I will speak to my family and my co-workers. Today we all have the opportunity to speak up for America. Today we all have the opportunity to shout down those that benefit from the lies of America. Today we all have the opportunity to change the destiny of America and American and in that make history. Today join me, as we make history! God bless you and the United States of America!
