The fact the writer is very much a programmer is clear by the recursive nature of the story line logic. Well done and enjoyable, wished it was longer.

Duplicate eBook Alex Feinman Reviews

A quick but fulfilling read, and ultimately a page-turner. I'd recommend it for any fan of classic sci-fi with twist after twist.
I really enjoyed this book. As one of the other reviewers said, it's hard to say much about it without spoilers. It explores issues of identity and personality, and is both thrilling and intellectually stimulating at the same time. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
I read this in one sitting (from an ebook reader). It is an edge-of-your seat page turner for those who are fans of speculative fiction taking place in the not-too-distant future. The characters development is strong and the philosophical issues that this not-unlikely future technology posits are quite compelling. I'm hoping for a sequel, or prequel, or movie adaptation!
Alex Feinman sets his novel Duplicate in a future ruled by greed and power, as nearly-expendable humans risk everything and nothing for a profit margin. Asteroid mining is always a risky business, but if your most experienced miners can be regrown after a fatal accident, there's no real call for safety.

A veteran miner thinks little of these risks, until a series of unlikely mishaps propel him into the adventure of several dozen lifetimes!
It's very difficult to discuss the plot of the book without giving away spoilers.

Let's just say that it is basically a puzzle story; the puzzle involves the survival of the protagonist in unusual and very uncomfortable situations; and he dies. Several times.

Against the protagonist an asteroid mining corporation, greed, piracy, and contract negotiations. Usually more than one of these at a time. There are twists aplenty, moral ambiguity, and the use of weapons.

Overall, an enjoyable read.
This is a story of technology gone wrong that focuses on the effects on the people more than the tech itself. It makes me think of some of Larry Niven's early work (e.g. the teleporter stories).

The story is well-crafted both in plot and character development. The point of view changes a few times, which in some stories can cause readers to get lost, but I never had any trouble with the switches, and they brought a richness that you usually don't get with a single POV character. I could relate to these characters.

There's a lot going on in this novella, so it does require the reader to pay attention. That said, at ~100 pages (on paper) you can easily read it in a single sitting.
I read this book on my over the weekend. I am not usually a SciFi reader, but I enjoyed this book a lot. It was action packed and I got a kick out of the premise of the DupliPod. Makes me think about how our values would be different if duplication were a reality. Good, quick read!
